Mike Louie's TaeKwon-Do School
What is TaeKwon-Do?
TaeKwon-Do is an ancient martial art dating back to 5000B.C. The art was mainly used by peasants who could not afford weapons to protect their villages, so they had to devise a way to defend themselves without weapons. Tae meaning “Hand”, Kwon meaning “Foot” and Do meaning “The Way”. Together TaeKwon-Do means the ‘Way of the Hand and Foot‘.
TaeKwon-Do was founded back in 1955 by the late General Choi Hong Hi , a philosopher, who hoped to some day unite the world by the way of TaeKwon-Do. To this day you can find TaeKwon-Do schools at every corner of the globe. We practice the Chan Hun style of TaeKwon-Do. It is based on 24 patterns, which represent one hour of each day in each of our lives that we should live to the fullest. Patterns are a series of movements made up of different blocks, punches, kicks, & stances that are put together to exercise the movements required for the next belt level.
Striving for happiness & inner peace is one of the most sought after & misunderstood achievements in life of people.
We buy material things to makes us happy. Does it really make you happy? Material things make you happy temporarily, but never does it satisfy the happiness of the inner soul. Building self confidence, self esteem, and living your life to the fullest not only makes you happy on the inside, but makes life better for you on the outside.
The main foundation for our school are the 5 Tenants of TaeKwon-Do . A tenet is an opinion, principle or doctrine, which a person holds as truth.

Sabumnim Mike Louie, V Dan signed up for his 1st Taekwon-Do class when he was 6 years old in 1978. His mother hoped through Taekwon-Do he would learn to build self confidence and self esteem to prevent him from being bullied in school.

Mr. Louie was a volunteer instructor at Millersville University from 1991 to 2002. From there he opened his 1st school at the Hempfield Rec Center in June 2003 and then the Paramount Sports Complex in August 2003.
At MIKE LOUIE'S TAEKWON-DO SCHOOL we focus on the traditional aspects of Taekwon-Do; mind, body and spirit. Through these fundamentals we work on speed, power, accuracy, concentration, balance, discipline, self esteem, patience and self confidence.
Through basic training techniques, patterns, self defense, step sparring, and mental training you will become a better person in today's world.
